The lake is a fresh water lagoon that is permanently discouloured by tea tree tanins leaching from the trees that surround the lake. There are some good BBQs and plenty of picnic tables. The tea trea water is said to have health giving and rejuvenating properties and is a great way to wash the salt and sand off after swimming in the ocean The reef and protected waters off the southern end, just north of the headland is known as the Moat is an excellent snorkelling spot. The area provides a good opportunity to view tropical fish, crustaceans and shellfish as they shelter from the prevailing swells. Whale & Dolphin Watching Whales can be easily seen from the Pat Morton Lookout on Lennox Headland. There is a walking track that leads east along the headland to one or two other prime viewing positions. Whales pass by Lennox Headland in June/July on their annual pilgrimage to warmer waters and then they pass again heading south during September/October. Dolphins can be spotted 'fishing' along the beach about 15 metres off the shore on most mornings.
